UI/UX Democracy Design Fellow

Voatz is an award-winning, early-stage startup based in the Boston area. We are an eclectic, passionate group of people working to change democracy by changing the way the world votes.

We are looking for a whip-smart, savvy Design Fellow to join our team for 6 months. 

Backed by military-grade security and cutting-edge technology, the Voatz mobile voting platform has been used by more than 70,000 voters across multiple elections, voting events and locations, with more in store for this year.

As Design Fellow, you will have the unique opportunity to partner with key decision-makers as we dive to the heart of what it means to build the next phase of our interface. From research with voters, to running elections of all flavors, to asking big questions like, “how might we design for decision-making?” — you’ll be sure to get your hands dirty in some exciting, groundbreaking work.

Responsibilities include, and may not be limited to:

  • Conduct design research including user interviews, elections observation, and testing prototypes 
  • Work with Product Lead to scope and craft UI/UX architecture for the next product build phase
  • Offer perspective and creative lens on designing for trust, reliability and ease-of-use
  • Design, on occasion, updates to our promotional materials



  • Must have degree in design-related field
  • 1-3 years experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and empathy skills
  • Sharp, creative eye and perspective
  • Passion for grassroots democracy and sparking civic engagement



  • Role is set for 6 months, beginning in May or June
  • Role is based in the Boston area
